08 March 2019

"Successful Women: Inspiration for Youth"

On the occasion of the International Women's Day, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe has made a presentation at University “Ukshin Hoti” in Prizren with the theme "Successful Women: Inspiration for Youth" followed by panel discussion.

In this organization was presented the inspirational stories of successful women as an example to be followed by university students and to encourage them to seek professional opportunities and achieve their potential.

Successful women share stories and experiences in advocating for women's rights in their professional and personal lives.

Acting Rectors Prof. Assoc. Dr. Ismet Temaj on behalf of the university welcomed the meeting organized on March 8th. He emphasized that we have had similar arrangements in the past and we will have it in the future as well. Rector Temaj congratulated all teachers on March 7, as well as all women on March 8th.

The OSCE director stressed that they are working towards making everyone feel equal and having the opportunity to succeed.

Lieutenant Colonel Sadete Jelliqi, Head of Regional Investigation in the Prizren Region Police, shared her experience with the attendees: I am the woman with the highest rank and position in the Prizren region. I run a unit of men and women dealing with serious criminal offenses. I have 19 years of work in the community service police. I worked in many positions, 17 years in leading positions in various degrees. It has been difficult to take responsibility when we have received uniform, fortunately after the war, women have been involved in the police and have shown tremendous success in all the tasks they have been given. It has been difficult to break stereotypes that women cannot be in the police. It is equally discussed for all professions. All male occupations are capable of doing. "

The judge at the Basic Court in Prizren, Hetije Sezairi, shared her experience: I graduated from high school in Prizren while faculty in Prishtina. I worked in the Municipality of Prizren and then appointed a judge. Success does not come overnight but step by step. Through trials I have come to women to create a sense of their rights.

Prof. Ass. Dr. Elsev Brina Lopar, professor at UPZ, stated that she was employed as a Turkish language professor while working for 10 years in Turkish language and literature at the University of Prishtina. All of these are important because they share these experiences with my students. I never thought I'd share the environment with my processors that I've respected too much. At the beginning of my career, it was a great pleasure, but then I continued my master's and doctoral studies. This has not been easy since I worked for four years as a teacher while I wanted to go back to the student life. I asked for free break from the Department of Education but they did not enable me. Then I resigned and continued my studies. I also had financial difficulties in my earlier life and this is an extremely difficult part of my life. I must mention the professors who have given me strong support, I have learned lessons and have some experiences with others. My mother worked for 45 years as a Turkish language teacher, as well as my father has supported the Turkish community while working in the 60s to create the school. As soon as he started studying he died of heart attack. Fathers are the heroes of the girls, but in his absence I had to continue my life. He has left me the dedication that should continue. I spent my life in this building. I have had leading roles in many publications in various magazines and publications, before and after doctoral studies. We are also planning to organize panels on women's rights with those working in the Turkish community. And we will share it with OSCE and other organizations dealing with human rights. "

Owned business owner from Prizren, a family company that operates since 1963, with the sale and production of sports equipment in Prizren and Pristina. "I'm lucky I was born into a commercial family. I started studying in the early 90's. Then there was another time, the lesson was organized outside the universities. When I returned to the store I did not feel good because I had other ideals. Every job you can turn to your favor and rises to a higher level. Now I'm dealing with managing and tracking all the jobs and keeping the report with international partners and increasing the quality.

The well-known pianist from Prizren Tringa Siqesa, stressed that she feels honoured to be in this panel. She emphasized that she has started piano at age 8. "It is very important to challenge yourself and overcome to achieve new successes. Although it is true that it is difficult. Kosovo does not support a pianist, an instrumentalist. An undeniable reality. I'm educated here and in Tirana. When I returned I thought to start working immediately. For other reasons I was not employed in the profession but at Dokufest I started managing a big project. Even now I continue studying for hours even though I work at the same time. If you start thinking about obstacles are more frequent and more difficult, you need to think beyond this. Do not deny that we come and do not underestimate the opportunities that this country gives us, "she said.

Jubilee Kabashi, director of women's shelters, stressed that she studied English in these banks and worked for two years as a teacher in the villages of Prizren. She showed that her husband died early and left little children. "For my miracle, the women's associations who took the help of women who had died during the war called me and offered me this job. I've always been in the background because of the great danger that this work has brought. We provide victims of all kinds of trafficking. The beginnings have been difficult since the legal basis has been lacking, but based on international conventions in foreign legislation and we have passed on our experiences. I had great experience that can be compared with the performance of some faculties. She still leads this shelter today. At age 50 I graduated from the Faculty of Psychology. It's never too late. Despite cancer diagnosis last year, I will continue to help women who have experienced violence. Many are easy to celebrate with flowers, but my wives do not have the 8th of March, do not want flowers or gifts, but for them the greatest gift is justice. "

Linda Lula, executive director of Dokufest and civil society activist shared her experience: I am honoured for the invitation and the students for the time they have shared to hear. I want to start with Dokufest and my journey to Dokufest. I was a student 18 years ago when some boys in Prizren wanted to organize a festival and volunteered for 4 years at Dokufest. I finished my studies and worked with me. Then I worked at the Bank, where I worked for two years, but I saw that I did not belong to that sector was not creative for me. When I called Dokufest, I immediately went. I was criticized by society but I went to the civil society sector where it could make changes. During the years at Dokufest, by 2010 I was the only woman I worked in Dokufest. I worked with 12 men, I just and I have been prejudged. But then we started with other projects and now we are 50 to 50. I showed documentary films about human rights and gender equality in high schools. A month ago I was elected Executive Director, volunteer after 17 years I became Director. All staff voted for me even though I did not ask for them and I'm grateful. I accepted it with pleasure and I believe that I will make Dokufest even with a higher level than it is now.

Beside Dokufest I am also in an informal group of Prizren girls and women in order to challenge patriarchal thinking in Prizren. We know that Prizren is a circle where men decide And we decided to challenge those men. Whether in politics, either in education or in the family. Each woman then has the same rights as men, nothing more. Equal rights I wish every day to be March 8 for women and women. We go marching; we do not go out for lunch or dinner. Tomorrow at the Fountain Square at 13 o'clock. We'll show that jeam is equal, wise and at the same level as men. Aim more at UPZ than you deserve more, dean, rector etc .. You must be persistent and do not stop before any challenge. "
