Faculty of Computer Science
Computer Science and Communication Technology

The Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) is one of the most important UPZ units. Through its study programs, FCS offers programs from telecommunication technology and software development, which are highly demanded in the labor market. Students at the end of studies are able to prepare web and software products ready for application in the labor market. Also, after finishing Bachelor studies, students can continue their studies at Master level.

Education curriculum

FCS offers two programs at the Bachelor level: Information Technology and Telecommunication - TIT and Software Design - DS. Also, FCS provides study programs at the Master of Science in Computer Science and Communication Technology. The TIT's Bachelor program is developed in three languages: Albanian, Turkish and Bosnian. FCS has accreditation from the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) for all its programs.

By completing this study program, students will acquire the following competences to enable them fully to:

  • Development of critical, analytic and synthetic thinking.
  • The ability to define, understand and creatively respond to professional challenges in the field of computer and information science.
  • The ability to use the acquired knowledge for solving professional and scientific problems and to extend the acquired knowledge.
  • Proficiency in research methods in the field of computer science.
  • The ability for administrative management of processes related to research, industry, education and other fields.
  • The ability of professional written communication in the fields of computer science and communication technologies both in Albanian and English.
  • The ability to transmit knowledge.
  • The ability to search knowledge sources and critically evaluate information.
  • Compliance with security, functional, economic and environmental principles.
  • The ability of team work within the professional environment.
  • Development of professional responsibility and ethics.
  • Basic competences in the field of computer and information science, which include theoretical knowledge, practical knowledge and skills essential for work in the field of computer science and communication technologies.
  • Detailed understanding of computer and information science and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to technical and other relevant professional fields (economy, organizational sciences, etc.).
  • The ability to transmit knowledge to co-workers in technology and research groups.
  • Practical knowledge and skills of computer hardware, software, information technology and communication technologies necessary for successful professional work in computer and information science.

Graduates in the 2nd cycle of the study program have the competence to independently tackle demanding developmental, engineering, and organizational tasks as well as moderately demanding research tasks in their fields of study, granting access to further study at 3rd cycle doctoral programs

In addition, the subjects in these directions are mainly practical, where based on the assessment the practical development of projects and software applications is handled. Graduates in the 2nd cycle of the study program have the competence to independently tackle demanding developmental, engineering, and organizational tasks as well as moderately demanding research tasks in their fields of study.

This form of course organization is important for the preparation of students for the labor market, who are able to develop their businesses as well. Also, it is very easy for them to be involved in existing businesses. All this, thanks to a qualified academic staff in this field.

 Academic Staff

In the academic year 2018/19, there are 12 professors and regular assistants, of whom 9 are Doctor of Science, as follows: 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 3 Assistants. To fully understand the subjects in computer science teaching, theory and practice should be balanced. For this purpose, there are 2 general computer labs and 1 logic design laboratory in which appropriate experiments can be carried out.

Career and Mission (Goal)

Students, after completing their studies, earn the "Master" academic degree in Computer Science and Communication Technology. FCS graduates will be able to work as engineers of software systems, web programmers and application software, and data center managers. Also, they will be able to design and implement industrial or engineering systems with the help of computers. Among our graduates, a considerable number are employed in local and international companies, offering technology services, but there are also those who are involved in the education of future generations and contributing to new scientific research.

Collaboration with universities

UPZ is in cooperation with several state universities in Germany, Austria, Albania, Turkey, Poland etc. In addition, our students have the opportunity to benefit from projects such as Erasmus + and many other projects.
