Programi Bachelor: Software Design/ BSc (180 ECTS);
Software Design
Faculty of Computer Science
The Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) is one of the most important UPZ units. Through its study programs, FCS offers programs from telecommunication technology and software development, which are highly demanded in the labor market. Students at the end of studies are able to prepare web and software products ready for application in the labor market. Also, after finishing Bachelor studies, students can continue their studies at Master level.
Education curriculum
FCS offers two programs at the Bachelor level: Information Technology and Telecommunication - TIT and Software Design - DS. Also, FCS provides study programs at the Master of Science in Computer Science and Communication Technology. The TIT's Bachelor program is developed in three languages: Albanian, Turkish and Bosnian. FCS has accreditation from the Kosovo Accreditation Agency (KAA) for all its programs.
In the first year of the Bachelor level, students are offered courses such as: Mathematics, Computer Science Introduction, Programming Introduction, Algorithms and Data Structure, etc. In the second year, students are offered courses on various software, computer equipment, computer networks and telecommunication concepts. Each semester students have available a list of elective subjects where they can choose the subjects they want to attend. In the third year, students focus on advanced concepts of programming and telecommunications, as well as in the preparation of the thesis topic, which contribute to the development of written and oral presentation skills.
Through this program, the Faculty for Computer Science of UPZ offers knowledge about basic and advanced science and technological challenges in field of computer science and its application in an IT-industry. Knowing that engineers in modern time should be able to solve more and more complex issues, to design and to implement software packages, to design and implement network solution, or to improve information technologies, it will be offered this bachelor program which cover techniques that will increase productivity in software development and information technology.
The program thus offers training which covers every stage in the software life cycle. The teaching and learning methods used in the program are specially tailored to the needs of working students.
During the study, the students will be covered with all necessary information and knowledge from theory and practice. On this bachelor the students will be able to apply the knowledge gained through three years of study, in order to develop, implement and progress towards master study within a country or abroad.
By successful completion of the Faculty of Computer Science, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate fluency and competency in an object-oriented programming language.
- Identify and analyze requirements and specifications for computing problems and plans strategies for their solution.
- Compare and evaluate design and algorithm choices used to solve computing problems.
- Work effectively as an individual under guidance and as a member of a team.
- Apply relational database concepts, principles, and theories to designing and creating information systems.
- Apply operating system and computer architecture concepts and principles to problem solving in the context of computer systems.
- Apply knowledge of networking concepts and principles to solving problems related to networked computer systems.
- Communicate technical problems and solutions to a range of audiences.
Graduates of this program "Software Design" are expected to be employed frequently in the software development sector in very broad range of positions. This target group is well versed in all phases of software development. They can work as systems analysts, in systems modeling and implementation, as well as software engineers and project managers. They can also be positioned in many database development and management positions. Even web and mobile development is suitable since there are many related courses.

In addition, the subjects in these directions are mainly practical, where based on the assessment the practical development of projects and software applications is handled. This form of course organization is important for the preparation of students for the labor market, who are able to develop their businesses as well. Also, it is very easy for them to be involved in existing businesses. All this, thanks to a qualified academic staff in this field.
Academic Staff
In the academic year 2018/19, in the academic year 2018/19, there are 12 professors and regular assistants, of whom 9 are Doctor of Science, as follows: 3 Associate Professors, 6 Assistant Professors and 3 Assistants. To fully understand the subjects in computer science teaching, theory and practice should be balanced. For this purpose, there are 2 general computer labs and 1 logic design laboratory in which appropriate experiments can be carried out.
Career and Mission (Goal)
Students, after completing their studies, earn the "Bachelor" academic degree in Computer Science in the respective course. FSHC graduates will be able to work as engineers of software systems, web programmers and application software, and data center managers. Also, they will be able to design and implement industrial or engineering systems with the help of computers. Among our graduates, a considerable number are employed in local and international companies, offering technology services, but there are also those who are involved in the education of future generations and contributing to new scientific research.
Collaboration with universities
UPZ is in cooperation with several state universities in Germany, Austria, Albania, Turkey, Poland etc. In addition, our students have the opportunity to benefit from projects such as Erasmus + and many other projects.
